The first time I used it was to claim a laptop refirb that was not starting up. In the end, after a LOT of on phone testing, they told me its the software, NOT the hardware. And since only the hardware is insured, they would not be able to do anything for me. And the laptop still didn’t startup. So they DID NOT fix it and it WAS NOT able to be claimed under the insurance. So, my laptop sits there in the corner dead all day long, and next to it? Well, next to it sits the printout of the SquareTrade logo that I put there. It laughs at me each time I walk by, to remind me to never buy SquareTrade ever again.

Pretty shady. The e-mail I got from them doesn’t say what the warranty covers or even what product it warrantied! After I registered on their website (using my e-mail address) when I tried to find the specific coverage for the item I had purchased this warranty for, all I found was something vague that said it was $79 coverage for “laptop computers.” I didn’t purchase this warranty for a computer. There is no certificate of coverage whatsoever as with every other legitimate warranty. No indication of how to file a claim if needed… and how would they know to cover it since nowhere on the correspondence I received from them nor on their website where I registered does it say what the item is that is covered? This is just a scam as far as I’m concerned.

Square Trade… if you have to get something fixed by them, I must admit they are great, they ship the box for you to send it back in quickly and then your item is not only fixed, but it is fixed fast. That said, they told me a bald faced lie that ended up–more or less–costing me (it depends on whether you want to add in time and hassle, or you are just talking about actual dollars and cents) several hundred dollars AND a lot of hassle. Some people inclined to exaggerate might say that they cost me $738. That wouldn’t be entirely untrue. I hate to say this, b/c I had nothing but the highest respect for them. They did me 100% right on a piece of junk Samsung laptop I had a couple years ago. They fixed it no less than three times… but this last time? One idiot lied to me in a live chat (I copied the image, so I had proof of what she told me and they still wouldn’t do right by what she said) and their rep goes into the toilet with me. Sorry Rounddeal…
